TAMPA, Fla. — When Andrew Miller and Bryan Mitchell arrived on Thursday morning at their lockers, located next to each other, the pitchers were a dichotomy of the fickle nature of sports injuries. Miller sat in his chair, his right wrist wrapped to protect a chipped bone. Mitchell stood on crutches picking through his belongings.
A day earlier, Miller had left the field in anguish and annoyance after taking a line drive off his nonthrowing arm — an injury that looked as if it might be a formidable blow to the Yankees. Mitchell, meanwhile, merely limped off in discomfort after running to cover first base.
