How Yankees plan to handle Gary Sanchez’s injured thumb

LONDON — Yankees manager Aaron Boone removed Gary Sanchez from Sunday’s 12-8 win over the Red Sox after the eighth inning despite having a four-run lead because of a left thumb problem.

“There was one pitch I caught in my thumb. It’s a little sore, we will see the next couple of days and see how I feel,’’ said Sanchez, who contributed two RBIs to Sunday’s victory and was replaced by Austin Romine.

Sanchez, who was voted onto the AL All-Star team as a starter, said he wasn’t concerned with the thumb but is headed for tests.
