Montgomery was a godsend to the Yankees last season when he came out of nowhere late in spring training to become a reliable fifth starter as an unheralded rookie.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder's stats were impressive. He was 9-7 with a 3.88 ERA over 29 starts with 144 strikeouts in 155 1/3 innings .
