How Yankees are trying to fix Miguel Andujar

TAMPA — If Miguel Andujar doesn’t improve at third base in his second big league season, it wouldn’t be because of a lack of effort.

This past offseason, Andujar worked with Aaron Boone and infield instructor Carlos Mendoza in Tampa and his native Dominican Republic with the hope of reducing the 15 errors he committed as a rookie a year ago.

The 15 errors were fourth among big league third basemen. Boston’s Rafael Devers’ 24 were tops. Oakland’s Matt Chapman committed 20, and Cincinnati’s Eugenio Suarez made 19.

At times last year Andujar’s footwork led to mistakes, and his arm angle resulted in errant throws to first, but the focus on his offseason work was on his pre-pitch setup.
