Headley dealing with sore Achilles

ANAHEIM -- Yankees third baseman Chase Headley has been dealing with Achilles tendinitis for a week, but it isn't expected to be a long-term concern.

Headley was out of the lineup for Friday's series opener at Angel Stadium, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi said a day off following the team's off-day on Thursday should be the only time Headley has to miss.

"It's been bothering him for a while, so I figured if I could give him two days here, yesterday and today, maybe it knocks it out," Girardi said.

Headley couldn't identify the cause of the tendinitis, noting that the only recent change he's made was a switch to metal cleats from his usual rubber ones after he found it harder to dig into the batter's box.
