BOSTON — Alex Rodriguez is scheduled to start Thursday against Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright, according to Joe Girardi.
But not before: Rodriguez won’t be in the starting lineup Tuesday or even Wednesday against lefty Drew Pomeranz.
“My responsibility as manager, we are still in this, is to try to win games,” Girardi explained.
At a press conference Sunday, when it was revealed Rodriguez’s final game as a Yankee is scheduled for Friday in The Bronx against the Rays, Girardi said Rodriguez could play as much as he wanted this week.
“I think I got caught up in the emotions,” Girardi said.
