Giancarlo Stanton exits Yankees game after headfirst slide

Giancarlo Stanton left Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth inning after diving headfirst into third base in the bottom of the first.

He singled to center and was thrown out trying to advance to third on a groundout by Luke Voit.

Third base was left uncovered after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ranged far to his left to field the grounder, but Toronto lefty Clayton Richard raced over and fielded the throw from first baseman Rowdy Tellez and tagged Stanton.

Richard appeared to step on Stanton’s left hand, but the Yankees did not announce a cause for Stanton’s removal.
