Former Yankee pitcher explains retirement decision: ‘Nothing really materialized’

Chad Green, a reliable bullpen arm for the Yankees from 2016-22, has confirmed that he is retired from MLB.

“I officially just called it quits in April, early April,” Green said in an interview with Randy Olson of AreaSports. “I was still throwing and stuff once I got designated last year. I was still kind of working out and throwing and getting ready just in case an offer was worth it and something that I could leave and go do. But nothing really materialized… I really only called it quits in April.”

The Toronto Blue Jays designated Green for assignment on July 29, 2025, after acquiring reliever Seranthony Dominguez as they advanced to the World Series against the Dodgers.
