Ex-Yankee Esteban Loaiza gets 3 years for cocaine possession

Former Yankees pitcher Esteban Loaiza was sentenced on Friday to three years in prison for cocaine possession.

The 47-year-old pleaded guilty last year to possessing about 44 pounds of cocaine with intent to distribute. Cops arrested him after finding the drugs in 20 packages in a van parked at his home in California.

Loaiza, who was born in Tijuana but attended high school near San Diego, will be deported to Mexico after serving the sentence, his lawyer told the San Diego Union-Tribune. He was a legal permanent US resident.

US District Judge Janis Sammartino handed down the sentence in San Diego federal court.
