Dustin Fowler’s second career start was the second chance he wasn’t certain would come.

Once feeling as if his return was “forever away” after suffering a season-ending knee injury in the first inning of his major league debut last season, the Athletics outfielder collected his first career hit Friday night against his former team, off of the Yankees’ Sonny Gray, who Fowler was traded for last July.

Fowler was nearly one year late for his first-ever game at Yankee Stadium, but the timing of his return was “perfect.
