OAKLAND, Calif. — Didi Gregorius will return to the Yankees’ lineup Friday night when they open a three-game series against the Mariners at Safeco Field.
After the middle-of-the-order hitting shortstop completed an afternoon workout consisting of running, batting practice and taking ground balls, Aaron Boone was ready to welcome Gregorius back from the disabled list.
“He had a good day [Wednesday] and we are looking at probably activating him Friday,’’ Boone said before the Yankees’ 8-2 loss to the A’s Wednesday night.
Asked to describe what it will mean to have Gregorius return to a lineup that will still be without Aaron Judge and has Gary Sanchez struggling since coming off the DL on Sept.
