Coming up just short wasn’t enough to ease Yankees’ sting

Aaron Boone smiled as he confessed that he had yet to watch a replay of Jose Altuve’s home run that clinched the American League Championship Series for the Astros on Saturday.

“I walk away when it comes on,” the Yankees manager admitted.

Boone, of course, is not only part of a select group of men — 10 in all — who have done what Altuve did — ending a playoff series with one swing of his bat. He stands alone as the only man in history so directly tied to TWO such moments — Altuve’s Saturday night, as a losing manager, and 16 years ago, Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, when he made a Tim Wakefield knuckleball disappear into a joyous sea of arms.
