CC Sabathia gives Yankees the outing and good news they needed

The Yankees woke up Saturday as losers of four straight games and sitting 5 ½ lengths back of Tampa Bay in the AL East after just 13 games.

It was the largest deficit they have faced in the standings this early in the season since 1984 — when the Tigers, then in the AL East, ran away with the division.

By the end of Saturday’s 4-0 win over the White Sox, the Yankees had at least stopped the bleeding — for a day, anyway.

It began with CC Sabathia, brilliant in his first start of the season after undergoing knee surgery and a heart procedure in the offseason.
