Late last night the word came down that the Yankees had signed Gerrit Cole to a record-breaking 9 year, $324M contract. I was pleasantly shocked when I woke up in the middle night and saw the alert on my phone. I did not expect the Yankees to stay in the bidding if it got that high.
There’s a very good chance that the Yankees may regret this contract at some point, but if it ends up like CC Sabathia where they get at least one World Series out of it that will lessen the blow significantly.
