Andy Pettitte spurned Derek Jeter for ‘laid back’ Yankees job

TAMPA — The Core Four, it turns out, is not quite ready to fully reunite in Miami a la “The Golden Girls.” Andy Pettitte has decided to keep his talents in The Bronx.

The beloved left-hander announced Monday, here at George M. Steinbrenner Field, that he will become a special adviser to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. The always earnest Pettitte, who retired for the second and seemingly last time in 2013, acknowledged he had received a similar offer to join the Marlins from team president Derek Jeter, his old Yankees teammate, who recently successfully recruited fellow Core Four member Jorge Posada for such a role.
