For like the 10th time this year, the New York Yankees "saved" their season with a near-death victory. They took down the Texas Rangers in Wednesday's series finale in a tight-rope effort, sealed with a five-out save from David Bednar.
The night prior, manager Aaron Boone bypassed going to Bednar during Devin Williams' meltdown, which angered fans to no end. On Monday, Bednar put in an efficient inning of work, logging 11 pitches and holding the Yankees' 5-4 lead in the eighth before Williams blew it. After the game, when asked about the decision to go with Williams, Boone said the only alternative he considered was maybe going to Bednar for one more out in the ninth.
