NEW YORK -- Sonny Gray didn't get through five innings -- again.
He walked five hitters, only one more than his season high.
When he left, the Yankees were in desperation mode, with the bases loaded and one out and one of their few relievers who wouldn't considered high-end left to rescue the lead.
"I thought it was a big step forward," manager Aaron Boone said after the Yankees' 7-4 win over the Twins at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.
"I think there are a lot of positives to take away from it," Gray said.
