Ruben Sierra grew up in Puerto Rico where he was originally discovered by baseball scouts prior to the Texas Rangers signing him in 1982. Just 17 years old, Sierra would have to wait until 1986 before he would play in his first Major League Baseball game, during which he hit a home run in his second plate appearance.
