Yankees Rumors: David Robertson to replace Mariano Rivera as Yankees' closer

Yankees rumors are starting to change focus from the free agent market to players currently wearing Yankee pinstripes, and it now seems like the New York Yankees have settled on their next closer.

In an interview with the New York Post on Wednesday, New York Yankee owner Hal Steinbrenner named David Robertson as the man to replace legendary Yankee closer Mariano Rivera. "I have a lot of confidence in Robertson and so does Joe (Girardi). Robertson will be our closer and I believe he will do a good job."

Steinbrenner did add that the Yankees are going to "continue to look" and that "you can't be perfect at every position," leaving the door open for a possible move if Robertson struggles out of the gate.

David Robertson had a fantastic 2013 season in the Yankees bullpen, posting a 2.03 ERA and a miniscule 1.04 WHIP in 70 appearances. Just two years ago, he had a 1.08 ERA with 100 strikeouts in just 66.2 innings pitched, leading many to believe that Robertson has all of the right stuff to fill the shoes of the legendary Mariano Rivera.
