Yankees News: Yankees Front Office Inquires About Trade For Troy Tulowitzki

The New York Yankees have had their eye on Troy Tulowitzki for years now, and while it looked like that possibility had faded when the Yankees brought in Didi Gregorious, things are heating up all over again.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Yankees have 'checked in' on Tulowitzki, and while the Mets have engaged in discussions with Colorado about a trade for the Rockies SS, those talks haven't gone anywhere.

Tulowitzki, 30, has $118 million left on his deal over the next six years. That's reportedly a sticking point for the Mets, but the Yankees have no problems ponying up for top talent like Tulo, who hit .340 last season with 21 HR and 52 RBI in 91 games before undergoing surgery on an injured left hip in August. Tulowitzki wears #2 as a tribute to Derek Jeter, one of his personal heroes, and he'd be very interested in coming to New York.

The problem, once again, is Colorado's asking price. According to several writers, including ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand, the Yankees currently aren't willing to give up the kind of top prospects the Rockies will demand. Tulo's injury history and the presence of Gregorius are also issues, and any potential deal for the Rockies slugger would require other corresponding moves to fit him into the Yankees' roster.

Heyman throws out Dellin Betances and several other names as possible makeweights in a Tulowitzki trade, but the Yankees are extremely hesitant to part with their young pitching talent...especially for an over-30 player averaging just over 90 games a season due to injuries. As things stand, don't get your hopes up for a Tulo trade...but with the Yankees, you can never really rule anything out.
