Yankees News: Joe Girardi Says Naming A Fifth Starter Is Top Priority

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi isn't in any rush to name a closer at this juncture of Spring Training.

"It's not on the top of my priority list,'' he said Monday.

So, what is?

Per Erik Boland of Newsday, Girardi's answer was "naming a fifth starter, which could happen 'by the end of this week."'

The two favorites right now are Adam Warren and Esmil Rogers, but dark-horse candidates Chase Whitley, Scott Baker and Bryan Mitchell also remain in the mix.

"We talked about it yesterday some,'' Girardi said of the competition. "We're still going to let it play out. As we said, we're going to evaluate their last couple of starts.''

Catcher Brian McCann doesn't have a personal favorite amongst that group. At least, not publicly.

"I think everybody's been throwing the ball great,'' McCann said recently. "It's been a really good camp for a lot of guys.''
