Yankees News: Francisco Cervelli leaves Sunday's game with leg injury

In Yankees news today, New York Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli left Sunday night's game against the Boston Red Sox with an apparent leg injury.

According to Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com, "Cervelli hurt himself running to first base in the bottom of the fourth inning, trying to beat out a double play. After touching the bag, he appeared to grab the back of his right leg and crumpled to the ground, before eventually limping off the field."

Cervelli was called out by first-base umpire Bob Davidson, but the call was promptly overturned when NY Yankees manager Joe Girardi challenged the ruling.

With the loss of Cervelli, Brian McCann is the only catcher left active on the New York Yankees roster, which will most likely necessitate a call-up after Sunday's game.

If Cervelli is out for an extended period of time, he will join first baseman Mark Teixeira and closer David Robertson on the disabled list. Brian Roberts was also scratched today due to back issues, and shortstop Derek Jeter was held out with what is being termed as a "tight quad."
