Yankees News: Could Masahiro Tanaka Take The Ball On Opening Day?

The white board on New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi's office wall in Tampa may have shed some light on the Yankees' plans for Opening Day on the mound.

"MT", short for Masahiro Tanaka, was written on the board in the space for Wednesday's start against the New York Mets.

Per Brendan Kuty of NJ.com, "Girardi said the team was "trying to line people up" so that their starting rotation would be set for the beginning of the season, which starts April 6. If Tanaka were to pitch every sixth day -- an extra day added in to protect his right elbow -- the Japanese ace's first regular-season start would land on Opening Day."

Regardless of the fruits of that math exercise, Girardi isn't tipping his hand when it comes to Tanaka or the team's plans for Opening Day.

"I'm just going to leave it at that for now," he said when pressed about his comments about lining up starters for Opening Day. "Good try, though."
