NY Yankees Rumors: Yankees completely out on free agent shortstop Stephen Drew

With all the NY Yankees rumors swirling about who the Yankees may or may not add to the almost $500 million of contracts they have dished out this offseason, we have a rare piece of news regarding a targeted free agent the Yankees may be completely out on.

According to the New York Daily News, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has decided to end the NY Yankees' pursuit of free agent shortstop Stephen Drew. Citing his previous decision to not make any more significant additions to the squad at this point, Cashman told reporters that the Yankees will work with the roster as is in regards to the middle of the infield.

With Derek Jeter coming off an injury-plagued 2013 season which saw him appear in only 17 games, many MLB insiders were prognosticating that the NY Yankees would follow their recent trend and shell out the money required to lock up the Boston Red Sox shortstop long-term.

30-year-old Stephen Drew played in 124 games in 2013, his most since appearing in 151 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010. He hit .253 with 13 HRs and 67 RBIs along with posting a .984 fielding percentage at short.
