NY Yankees Rumors: Could 2014 be the year of the Yankees?

NY Yankees rumors have been both optimistic with the cavalcade of free agent signings the NY Yankees have made this offseason, and pessimistic with several prognosticators bemoaning the Yankees' lack of depth in the middle infield and at third base.

However, one trusted NY Yankees analyst thinks that, despite their flaws, the NY Yankees could very well make 2014 the year of the Yankees once again.

In a blog post for ESPNNewYork.com, Yankees writer Andrew Marchand makes the case for what would have to fall in place for the New York Yankees to make Derek Jeter's final season a magical one: "Masahiro Tanaka is the biggest sensation in baseball. CC Sabathia is an ace again. Derek Jeter is vintage Derek Jeter in his farewell season. David Robertson closes with ease. Mark Teixeira's wrist doesn't fall off."

While there are a lot of if's in this proposition, every MLB team comes into the 2014 MLB season with some level of questions. Marchard argues that the Yankees could win it all in 2014, with just one big, unquantifiable factor on their side --

"They are going to have combine all the money they have spent with a commodity that is unavailable to the highest bidder at the winter meetings -- luck. So, yes, the Yankees could have a dream season if all of the above, and more, happens."

Luck, and perhaps a trade to build a bit of depth in the infield, may be what it takes to pull the NY Yankees from the land of the also-rans into playing meaningful games deep into October.
