The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) defeated reigning European champions, the Netherlands, 2-0, on Sunday to become just the second team in history to win back-to-back Women’s World Cup titles. Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle both scored in the second half to give the U.S. the win.
Rapinoe also left the tournament with two other pieces of new hardware, the tournament’s Golden Ball award for the tournament’s best player and the Golden Boot award for most goals. Her teammate Alex Morgan took home the Silver Boot for second-most goals, while Lavelle took home the Bronze Ball.
