After a near-perfect month of July, the month of August could hardly have started poorer for the Red Bulls. Not only did the team lose a lead to NYC FC in a crucial derby match, they also lost Daniel Royer for the foreseeable future to an injury. Three days later, the San Jose Earthquakes fell to Sporting Kansas City in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semi-Finals which means that the winner of the Red Bulls' road game against FC Cincinnati next week will have to travel to KC for the Open Cup Final.
Add in the team's relative lack of movement in the final days of the MLS Summer transfer window and it's easy to say that things have not gone well for the team.
