For the second straight year the Red Bulls traded away their team captain.
After dealing Dax McCarty last offseason, they shipped Sacha Kljestan and $150,00 of targeted allocation money to Orlando for striker/midfielder Carlos Rivas and centerback Tommy Redding.
The move was first reported by ESPN and confirmed by The Post. It also was a case of the Red Bulls cashing in on win-now Orlando’s desperation to land a pair of young assets. Kljestan led the league in assists the past two seasons and will ably replace retiring Brazilian icon Kaka; but he’s 32, set to make well more than $1 million and is going into the final year of his contract.
