The Red Bulls began the season as the Supporters’ Shield holders and Las Vegas favorite to hoist MLS Cup, but they sure haven’t opened it the way they had hoped. They have not scored in losing both of their games, and no league team has bounced back from an 0-2 start to win the title since 1996.
If they’re going to be the first since D.C. United did it that inaugural MLS season, it almost makes Saturday’s game against visiting Houston a must-win (7 p.m., MSG2).
“We’re excited to be back home again, and it’s obviously an important game for us to get our season going a little bit,” coach Jesse Marsch said.
