The Red Bulls’ sister club RB Leipzig became one of Europe’s biggest surprises last year, rising through the ranks to finish second in the Bundesliga and make the UEFA Champions League. Now the MLS club is hoping to capture a little of that magic, plucking away Benjamin Ehresmann to be its own head of scouting.
The Frankfurt native and former professional midfielder in Germany was RB Leipzig’s head video analyst for scouting as they surged up from Germany’s lower divisions to prominence. With the Red Bulls relying more on unearthing and developing talent than buying ready-made stars, sporting director Denis Hamlett hopes Ehresmann can help beef up the scouting department.
