One of the talking points to emerge from the New York Red Bulls 2017 MLS home opener was the somewhat unexpected start handed to 20-year-old Derrick Etienne. The Red Bull Academy product has played in all of RBNY's competitive games so far this season, and the start seemed like fair - if surprising - reward for his last couple of outings.
He was on the pitch in Vancouver inside the first 10 minutes of the ill-fated second leg of the Red Bulls' 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League semifinal, and he played well in relief of the injured Gonzalo Veron.
