The New York Red Bulls paced themselves during their current run of three games in eight days, benching six starters for their game against Sporting Kansas City on May 3 to be assured of arriving at this end of the grueling stretch with a fresher-than-expected starting core.
Sacha Kljestan, Bradley Wright-Phillips, and Daniel Royer all came off the bench in the second half in Kansas City in a futile effort to salvage a lost cause, but they will surely start against the Union - not least because it is difficult to argue that their replacements against SKC made a compelling case for another start.
