On May 30, the Rangers placed Day on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract. Day was the 81st pick of the 2016 Draft — the Rangers’ first selection in that draft. A highly-anticipated player before his junior career began in the OHL, Day was granted exceptional status in 2013 to play with the Mississauga Steelheads at the age of 15.
