Report: Rangers won’t play Braden Schneider or Ryan Carpenter for cap space

The New York Rangers want to bring in Patrick Kane as soon as possible. According to multiple reports, defenseman Braden Schneider and forward Ryan Carpenter are not expected to take a shift in today’s game versus the Los Angeles Kings.

After one period of play, neither has stepped on the ice. Rangers lead 1-0 on an Alexis Lafreniere goal.

Per PuckPedia, by not playing either player and sending Schneider down to the Wolf Pack (paper transaction) on Monday and Tuesday, it will accrue enough cap space to finalize the Patrick Kane deal by Wednesday.

However, K’Andre Miller was assessed a match penalty for spitting on Drew Doughty effectively bringing the Rangers to four defensemen with two period left.
