Thursday night’s electric second-period at a pulsating Barclays Center concluded with Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck in a war of words with Rangers trainer Jim Ramsay, and Rangers forward Tanner Glass flapping his arms at Clutterbuck to call him a chicken.
This was shades of Theo Fleury clucking at the Isles’ Eric Cairns in 2002. This was yet another rivalry slugfest with the pace of play super-charged with adrenaline. Neither foe would yield through two mostly scoreless periods, but someone had to win.
So the Islanders scored three unanswered in the third, capped off by a Kyle Okposo empty-netter with 1.
