Ovechkin defends his guarantee — but can he score to back it up?

No, Alex Ovechkin did not hedge on his “guarantee,” and he still fully believes his Capitals team is going to win Game 7 of this second-round series against the Rangers on Wednesday night at the Garden.

“I just said we’re going to New York and finish up the series, so that’s what I mean,” Ovechkin said Tuesday, via the Washington Post.

After the Rangers won Game 6, 4-3, at Verizon Center on Monday night, Ovechkin made waves by saying, “We’re going to come back and win the series.” He said it in another way a few moments later, adding, “We’re going to play our game and we’re going to come back and we’re going to play Montreal or Tampa [in the conference final].
