The Ryan Spooner for Ryan Strome deal was a great trade for Jeff Gorton. In exchange for a player that was almost immediately waived by Edmonton, the Rangers got a 25-year-old former top-five pick. Strome was traded straight up for Jordan Eberle in 2017, and never lived up to any expectations in Edmonton. So Peter Chiarelli sent him to New York for Spooner. Strome has since put up a line of 18-14-32 in 59 games for the Rangers.
Strome’s resurgence with the Rangers has come at a good time, as the Rangers needed bottom-six bodies to fill out the roster.
