The long-rumored summer of activity from the New York Rangers is officially underway with the trade for defenseman Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets. After a multi-week period in which several teams were linked to the defenseman who’s made it well known that he wanted out of Winnipeg, Rangers’ G.M. Jeff Gorton checked off the first box of the offseason.
Granted, sending Neal Pionk and the number 20 overall pick in the draft (which New York received for Kevin Hayes at the trade deadline) only secured the restricted free agent rights of Trouba, the expectation is that the two sides will come together for what’s sure to be a large extension.
