Any questions about defensive deployment were answered today when the New York Rangers announced that Marc Staal underwent ankle surgery via their Twitter feed.
UPDATE: Marc Staal underwent a surgical procedure for an infection in his ankle and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

It doesn’t sound like any kind of major surgery, but it does mean that Ryan Lindgren will be in the lineup as the team is back to carrying six defensemen. Brady Skjei was scratched in the Carolina game to get Lindgren back into the lineup.
