In terms of roster construction, the Rangers have been amongst the best in the NHL for sometime. Aside from the occasional bad decision here or there, New York was one of the best teams in terms of pure talent this decade. Yet, the team could have been even better if it were not for some befuddling decisions. The Ranger’s front office track record in regards to free agency has vastly improved.
Following the 2004 NHL lockout, the league implemented the salary cap and contract rules. Although the rules were designed to restrict the ability of teams like the Rangers to make moves, it in fact forced smarter decision making.
