Kevin Klein has called it a career.

The veteran Rangers defenseman announced his retirement Friday. The 32-year-old had one more year left on his contract. The decision saves the Rangers $2.9 million on the salary cap.

After coming over from the Predators in a 2013 trade for Michael Del Zotto, Klein was an integral part of the Blueshirts’ run to the 2014 Stanley Cup final. He finishes his 12-year career with 627 games played, including 38 goals and 154 points.

“I would like to thank both the Nashville Predators and New York Rangers organizations for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of playing in the NHL,” he said in a statement released by the Rangers.
