Henrik Lundqvist passes boyhood idol in record books

DENVER — Of course it was with an aerobatic save, with his stick somewhere out of his hand and sliding on the ice, that Henrik Lundqvist passed his boyhood idol, Dominik Hasek, with career win No. 390 coming in a 6-2 victory over the Avalanche on Saturday night at Pepsi Center.

In his first game back after missing two possible starts with a stomach illness that hit him on the day after Christmas, the 34-year-old Lundqvist is now the winningest European-born goaltender in NHL history.

The highlight came in the waning seconds of a game that was essentially over, when Lundqvist stopped Nathan MacKinnon on the doorstep when a shot hit the post, then hit Lundqvist’s right arm, his chest, and then fell at his feet.
