Gerard Gallant fumes over Rangers ‘garbage’ performance in loss to Caps

The New York Rangers stunk up Madison Square Garden in a 4-0 loss to the Washington Capitals with a performance that head coach Gerard Gallant labeled as ‘garbage’.

“We were garbage tonight,” Gallant said. “We didn’t deserve to win…I didn’t know what to do. I scrambled the lines again. Really disappointed in the group tonight.”

It was truly a poor effort from a team that needs to play really well to overcome a slow start over the first two months of the season.

With the loss to the Capitals (44 points) and the Islanders (42 pts) win over the Penguins (43 pts) on Tuesday, the Blueshirts (43 pts) now hold the last wild card spot by a point.
