Backup vs. third-stringer at MSG: Raanta faces Budaj

NEW YORK – The 2014 Stanley Cup Final rematch Friday night at the Garden was missing both star goaltenders.

The Rangers and Los Angeles Kings, who had not yet met this season, went into the game minus Henrik Lundqvist and Jonathan Quick.

Antti Raanta started in goal as Rangers coach Alain Vigneault attempts to keep Lundqvist fresh down the stretch and into the playoffs. The timing may not be perfect, with Lundqvist coming off what should have been two straight shutouts – he lost allowed a short-handed goal on a 2-on-1 that was almost a 2-on-0 late in a win against New Jersey Monday, then blanked the Penguins 3-0 on Wednesday.
