Alex Ovechkin, John Carlson play for depleted Capitals against Rangers

The Washington Capitals, because of injuries, discipline, personal and salary cap issues, dressed 17 skaters for Monday’s game against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

The good news for the Caps was that Alex Ovechkin, who had missed four games with a lower body injury, and defenseman John Carlson, who had missed two games with a lower body injury, did dress for the game. However, forward T.J. Oshie missed the game because of personal issues, the team said, and defenseman Justin Schultz was a no-go because of a lower body injury.

In addition, goaltender Ilya Samsonov and forward Evgeny Kuznetsov were held out of the lineup for disciplinary reasons.
