Where are they now? Del Unser traded to Mets for Tug McGraw

Del Unser has a wry take on the famous 1974 trade that made him a Met: “The good news on getting me was getting John Stearns, too,” Unser says.

“The bad news was losing a really good player.”

That player, as Met fans of a certain age doubtless remember, was Tug McGraw.

The Mets thought Unser was the answer to their problems in center field, but the cost was dear – McGraw was shipped to Philadelphia with Don Hahn and Dave Schneck in exchange for Unser, Stearns and Mac Scarce.
