What Robinson Cano’s ‘great’ day means for Mets return plans

Robinson Cano’s return is growing near.

Cano had a “great” day, Mets manager Mickey Callaway said before his team faced the Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Friday night.

The day for Cano included batting practice and hitting against high velocity in his rehab from a quadriceps strain. It appears the second baseman could be activated from the IL as soon as Sunday, when he is first eligible to return.

Jeff McNeil and Jed Lowrie are continuing baseball activities in their respective rehabilitation, according to Callaway, but haven’t been slated for rehab assignments.

About 150 members of the Mets’ front office put their hands to use earlier this week in Far Rockaway to build a new blue and orange playground at the Dix Avenue Apartments.
