Walker open to taking reps at first base 'just in case'

New York Mets second baseman Neil Walker told MLB.com's Anthony DiComo on Friday he is open to taking reps at first base "just in case."

"I just want to make sure that I'm preparing if something does happen," said Walker, who added a pair of first baseman's gloves to his locker and took grounders at first with Lucas Duda.

Several Mets have said during spring training they are willing to play first base in the regular season, including Jay Bruce. Manager Terry Collins has said David Wright could see time at first base once he's healthy, and Wilmer Flores has also backed up at first base in the past.
