Van Wagenen reportedly favorite for Mets GM

NEW YORK -- The Mets are down to their final two candidates for general manager, and according to media reports, they are zeroing in on one.

CAA agent Brodie Van Wagenen has emerged as the "significant favorite" to run baseball operations for the Mets, according to a tweet from Yahoo Sports reporter Jeff Passan. "The job is his if he wants it," Passan added, citing a source. No formal announcement has been made.

The team on Thursday eliminated Doug Melvin from contention, according to a source, thinning their field of candidates to two: Van Wagenen and Rays senior vice president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom.
