Updated: Harvey says he'll start Opening Day, despite procedure to remove blood clots

Matt Harvey will start Sunday against the Royals in Kansas City, despite having a procedure done Monday night to remove blood clot from his bladder.

According to Harvey, who talked with reporters Tuesday morning at Tradition Field, it was a bladder infection that caused the clot.

"Anytime there is discoloration in your urine, it's not a great feeling," Harvey said. "I'll be completely fine to start Opening Day."

The Mets announced Monday afternoon that Harvey would miss his final spring training appearance due to an unspecified non-baseball medical issue.

Instead, he said, he will throw two innings during a side session on Wednesday in preparation for his start Sunday in Kansas City.
